This Wednesday (8th November) sees a Community Cafe open in the Sports Pavilion.

Organisers Susanna Steer and Angela Carter say:

‘The Community Cafe will run for its first time on Wednesday 8th November, 10-11.30 at the Sports Pavilion. It was initially a PTA idea and is being operated as a joint PTA and Church venture. There seems to be a shortage of opportunities and locations for Barcombe residents to meet socially within walking distance, especially the older community. A monthly cafe would compliment the lunch club in St Francis, and we’ve timed it to be two weeks apart from that.

Susanna Steer and Angela Carter are the main organisers, but others are volunteering time and equipment and the cakes are mostly being made by members of the Church. If the November event is successful and we continue in 2024, we would like to involve a group of children from the school each time to give them an opportunity to chat, play board games, help with serving and interact, making this a multigenerational event –  something to really benefit everyone. The new Head of School is very supportive of the idea.

Although this cafe is open to all, we’re hoping it will be a fresh opportunity for the older community to meet up. Payment for tea, coffee and cake is via a donation box!’
